Know-how from nearly 15 years in tarps
-
Unroll it warm
Clear PVC stiffens in the cold. Hang it on a mild day, or let it warm up indoors first, so it lies flat without creasing.
-
Clean it gently
Mild soap, water and a soft cloth. Ammonia glass cleaners and scrub pads can cloud or scratch clear vinyl.
-
Secure every grommet
Snug, with a little give, so gusts don't pull at one grommet at a time.
-
It won't make shade
Clear lets sunlight and heat through. For shade, use shade mesh or a solid vinyl tarp.
Questions we hear most
Will a clear tarp give me shade?
Not much. Clear vinyl lets light and heat through. For shade, use shade mesh or a solid vinyl tarp.
Can I put it up in winter?
Yes, but clear PVC is stiff in the cold. Let it warm up before you unfold it so it doesn't crease.
How should I tie it down?
Use every grommet. Rubber tarp straps or bungees stretch with the gusts, so the tarp stays put without tearing at the grommets. Rope works on a cover that doesn't move, as long as it stays tight. See our tarp straps.
Is the listed size the cut size or the finished size?
Cut size. The finished tarp is about 3 to 5% smaller after hemming. If you need every inch covered, go one size up.
